*Zambia on course towards the promotion of peace and unity under the UPND leadership – Nevers Mumba*

Lusaka – 22/06/22

Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba says Zambia has an opportunity with President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership to promote peace, unity and move forward with national development.

Dr Mumba said in the past opposition political leaders were not given an opportunity to express themselves and most of them shunned away from attending national functions.

President Mumba told The Falcon at his residence that shuning of national functions by opposition political leaders then affected Zambians because it sent a message that Zambias were not one.

“We have an opportunity now that President Hichilema is sending a good message to the people by inviting former President Edgar Lungu to State duties and othet national functions.
It is important for HH and ECL to continue meeting for the people of Zambia to unite and foster national development,” he said.

He also called on politicians in the opposition to stop pulling down the Head of State because this will affect national development instead of allowing the UPND concentrate and continue to look at Zambia as a unifying factor.

The opposition leader said if God wills that one will be President of this country that will come to pass hence the need to support the one in power for purposes of national development.

He also said President Hichilema’s continuous spirit of inviting President Lungu is an attempt to start afresh for the sake of national development as he commended the former Head of State for attending the funeral of late veteran freedom fighter Sikota Wina.

He has also called on politicians to stop insults and respect each especially those in leadership as he called for maturity in the manner politicians speak to each other.

President Mumba said Zambians should clap at those politicians who usr vulgar language and encourage immorality.

Meanwhile Dr Mumba said whenever God gives an opportunity to change government there is need to take advantage of that change to introduce certain aspects that might have not been there in the previous regime.

“Even if the two leaders meeting may not be real for now in the long run they will genuinely live each love each other” he said.
